FAQ
Here you find answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions:
SYSTEM USE
What are the requirements to access to the system?
It is enough to be a European
manufacturer of automatic doors and register in the system. Just enter the Sign In page.
Does the
labeling have any cost?
The Basic access account is completely free and it can generate
labels as a marketing and sales tool. Full user profile allows you to print official labels for manufactured
products with a small fee in some cases. If you are a member of EDSF or any of its federated associations, there are
special conditions that can be seen in the How section of
this website.
I want to change my profile Basic Access to Full Access. Is that
possible?
No. To have a Full Access account it must be created independently, since the
numbering range of the labels is different. The two accounts can be simultaneously maintained.
I
prefer not to store my labels data in the cloud. What are my options?
The storage of online
data is done with current high safety and privacy standards. However there are other alternatives of
use:
- In-house version, in which the data are stored in local company servers.
- In-company
version, in which the company implements the calculation algorithm in its corporate system.
To check the
conditions of these options, you can consult info@edsfdoorenergy.com
If within one
company there are multiple users, can multiple profiles be created?
In the online version
each user must create its own profile. If several users belongs to the same company no additional fees are
added.
In the in-house version, user management is available and it is done by the company
itself.
SCOPE & VALIDITY
Is the EDSF energy label issued by the official bodies of the European Union?
Not at the moment. This is a private initiative that is made available to the sector to visualize the importance of automatic doors in the energy efficiency of buildings. It has been created and supported by the main European manufacturers association recognized by the EU, the European Door and Shutter Federation, e.V. (EDSF).
Who does verify that the data introduced by the manufacturers to generate the labels are correct and, therefore, so is the energy rating obtained?
Energy and geometric parameters entered by the manufacturer in the system are responsibility of the manufacturer.
They must be consistent with what is indicated in the Declaration of Performance (DoP) of the product.
When
the calculation and generation of the label through the web of EDSF is performed, the association certifies that the
calculation is made according to his standards, but it is not responsible that the classification is correct if the
parameters are not.
How do I know the specific energy saving in a certain building due to a more efficient door?
It is possible to calculate the energy savings due to improved efficiency of the door with the energy
parameters indicated by the manufacturer on the label. The label as it is does not indicate energy saving values as
they depend on the concrete building where the door will be installed.
If I do not know where the door is going to be installed, can I make the classification?
According to the standards, a door is not such until it is installed. The classification can be carried out
beforehand, but it requires a minimum location information in order to know:
- Climatic area where it is installed, that the system determines depending on the region or province.
- Approximated traffic in number of cycles per year that will be subjected to, which can be evaluated depending on the application.
To fill in the label, values can be approximated as the determining factor is the climate class and type of traffic that result.
Shall the label be applied to each individual door?
Yes, but it can be applied also to a group or range of products, provided that it is clearly identified by model or reference and thatall the values that appear on the label are the same throughout the range.
Should the label be attached physically on the door to be valid?
It is not mandatory, but it is advisable to do so to make visible to the users that it is a product related to energy efficiency.
What is the usefulness of the technical report generated by the system with each label?
The system generates a technical report with an image of the label and a summary of the supporting calculations, which may be part of the technical file of the door, and even of product commercial offers.
Are the gates included in the classification model?
No, because, as they do not close a
tight enclosure, they do not contribute to limit the thermal losses of the building, being its efficiency
exclusively linked to their electrical performance.
CLASSIFICATION & CALCULATION RESULTS
The same door in different climatic areas has the same energy class in some cases, even in extreme
climates. Is that correct?
Yes. You can only compare between them doors which are on the
same climate area. The system does not calculate absolute energy losses, it only does it in relative terms for
classification purposes.
You get the same energy classification with a bigger door when energy
losses should be much higher. Is it a correct result?
Yes. You can only compare
similar-sized doors to each other, meaning they have the same "size class", calculated automatically by the system.
The system does not calculate absolute energy losses, it does it in relative terms for classification
purposes.
By changing the number of cycles per year, in some cases I have a change in energy
class and not in others. Is it possible?
Yes. The number of cycles directly influences the
weight of the total infiltration losses, which are the main source of loss. In practice it is only possible to
compare doors with similar number of opening cycles per year, which means they have the same "traffic class"
calculated by the system.
Comparing a door with much higher insulation level than another (with
lower thermal transmittance U and lower air permeability), I verify that there is hardly any change in the
energy case. Is it right?
Yes. If it is a door with a relatively high number of cycles, the
weight of the losses by infiltration may be such that there is no variation in the energy rating of the door when
the level of insulation is improved. In these cases, the classification can be improved reducing the opening and
closing cycle time by increasing the speed of the door.
I change the door type and in some cases there is a variation in the
energy rating and not in other cases. Is it possible?
Yes. The door type is required to
evaluate the energy classification because the calculation needs to know the door kind of movement (horizontal,
vertical, swing, rotating, etc.).
The influence on the energy result depends on the values of the energy
parameters that can be achieved with a certain door type.
In a pedestrian sliding or swing door I
am not able to get to the level of classification A even improving isolation and reducing cycle time. Is it
possible?
Yes. In the case of pedestrian doors with a certain number of cycles it is only
possible to achieve the maximum efficiency with a revolving door, which further reduces losses by
infiltration.
